Baby Eczema

Unfortunately baby eczema can affect your child as young as a  newborn.  On your baby, eczema will typically appear as red,  bumpy, dry blotches all around the affected area.   Most times these breakouts appear in the creases of the neck, behind the knees,  in their inner arm, and maybe even on their scalp and face.  Baby eczema looks awful and not only does it affect the child but it also affects their parents.   Parents are concerned about the suffering caused by this annoying skin condition and both mother and child will experience many sleepless nights through the duration of baby eczema especially if it’s gone untreated.

Baby eczema is a very common disease and about 10% of children are affected by it.  This condition is often inherited from one of the parents, and although it looks very serious, it is not a contagious disease.  Parents do not have to worry about this disease infecting other children, however spectators my think otherwise.  The light at the end of the tunnel is that most babies born with eczema will grow out of it.

If you child suffers with baby eczema you should make sure the special care is taken of the affected area.  The baby’s skin will become very dry and very itchy and scratching can make it weepy and painful.  Your tender baby will not know not to scratch because scratching will be the only thing that provides temporary relief for them.

When dealing with baby eczema it is best keep their eczema skin clean and free of debris to avoid infection.  You can work closely with your Physician to find a soap that will work for your babies skin condition.  My Physician recommended fragrant free dove.  This worked well because it wasn’t harsh and it moisturized the skin as well.  Resist the urge to bathe your baby in baby fragrant soaps and washes, though these items are made for babies they will be too strong for a child suffering with baby eczema.  You want to make sure that the soaps and lotions you use are non fragrant, that they are for sensitive skin and that they have tons of moisturizing properties.

Also babies go through tons of clothes and as babies we are changing them almost constantly, but each time you wash your baby’s clothes make sure you wash them in detergent for sensitive skin like Dreft.  Also make sure that baby’s clothes are taken through the rinse cycle multiples times to clear them of all detergent.

If your baby has been as unfortunate to have been born with baby eczema then you should follow above tips and also  work closely with your doctor to care of the condition.
