Atopic eczema is a skin disease that is characterized by chronic inflammation of the skin. This disease is also known as atopic dermatitis. Atopic eczema is actually the most common form of the disease. Unlike most diseases this skin disorder can effect anyone from babies, children to adults. Contrary from peoples belief atopic eczema is not contagious however it can be hereditary.
Atopic eczema sufferers normally exhibit inflammed, flaky, red, and itchy skin. Eczema can appear anywhere on anyone however their have been some patterns noticed among babies, childern and adults. In babies they normally experience rashes on there elbows, face, legs, arms and knees. Childern and adults typically experience symptoms on the inside of their limbs, like the inside of their elbows and behind the knees. Another common area would be the wrist, neck and hands. Obviously symptoms will vary from one person to the next.
Outbreaks of atopic eczema are typically caused by the skins abnormal overreaction to irritants, and allergens scattered throughout the environment. Therefore sufferers with a history of allergies have the greatest likelihood of having and outbreak that will lead to skin inflammations. Therefore be cautious and try to avoid contact with irritants. Aside from allergens, this skin disorder may also be caused by stress and fatigue.
To prevent atopic eczema one needs to avoid the triggers that encourage an outbreak. The most common triggers of eczema sufferers are as follow:
- Extreme temperature changes
- Foods: dairy products, fish, peanuts, msg preservatives
- Clothes with abrasive fabrics or the laundry detergent your clothes are washed in
- Chemicals that come in contact with your skin, perfume, harsh soap, pesticides, paint, alcohol
- Fatigue and stress (fatigue more likely to affect children, stress more likely to effect adults)
- Other skin infections can cause eczema outbreaks to last even longer)
